An Educated Guess

Alright. You all remember the Tonight Show with Johnny Carson, right? I want you to imagine me as the character he used to do on his show, Karnak. So I'm wearing a turban, a little cape and I'm holding an envelope to my head and I'm saying...

"The answer is Laos."

I can hear you now. "She's finally done it. She's lost her mind. She's speaking gibberish." Well, I don't think I've lost my mind (yet), and while it does seem as if I'm speaking gibberish, this will all make sense in a minute. Just hang in there. I promise.

This morning while my husband and I were watching the Today Show, they were doing a segment with Matt Lauer on his "Where In The World Is He" tour. Yesterday he was in the one world nation of Buenos Aires (name that film) and today he is in Amsterdam. Half way through the show he gives the clue for where he will be tomorrow. Here is the clue...

This country is an anagram of a synonym of a homophone of an even prime number.

Okay. So if anyone is speaking gibberish, it's Matt Lauer. Apparently all that flying around the world has adversely affected his brain. Right after it popped up on the TV my husband says "Pause it! Pause it!" So I rewind back to the clue and hit pause on the old DVR. He then reads it out loud and starts talking. "Okay...there is only one even prime number and that is 2. A homophone is a word that is said the same but spelled differently like two, to, too. A synonym is..."

And this is where I got lost. I just sat there watching like him like he was trying to figure out the meaning to life. When he got to the anagram part he exclaimed...

"LAOS! He's going to Laos tomorrow!"

All of this elapsed in seriously less than a minute. I'm not kidding. I started roaring when he gave his answer so he asked "What is so funny?"

Through the tears of laughter I looked at him and said "Laos? Seriously? How in the hell did you figure that out?"

He started to explain it to me, but in my typical fashion, I couldn't follow along because I was laughing so hard. I was just amazed that he got the answer to the clue in less than a minute. I literally had to go online afterward and Google the words homophone, synonym and anagram so I could try to see if he was correct. Needless to say, he was. I think he missed his calling cracking codes for the government.

I went to the Today Show website to get the exact wording for this clue and while I was there I saw there was a poll asking "Where do you think Matt Lauer will be tomorrow?" So I clicked on it to give my husband's answer. As soon as you vote, it takes you to a page that lists the most popular answers. So far the winner is Laos.

At the end of the show (I'd say 20 minutes later) everyone was on screen...Matt in Amsterdam, Meredith, Al and Anne in New York. When they went to the last three they were all yelling and laughing. Matt asks what was going on and they all started screaming "We got it! We got it! We know where you will be!" My husband looks at the TV and says "It took them that long to figure that out? Morons."

Tune in tomorrow here or at the Today Show to see if my husband is correct. I really should tape his reaction when they show Matt Lauer in Laos. He will be very smug and happy with himself, to say the least.

Don't ya just miss Johnny? I spent many a babysitting evening up with Johnny.

Laos - I'm sure the brillant Mike is right. I'll have to turn in tomorrow to find out.

Good luck with auditions today - yesterday they went really smoothly (except they wouldn't let anyone watch - wth?).

I was pretty excited to figure out the whole LAOS thing, too. If I'm wrong, I'm going to be really annoyed.
